It was in April of 1992 that the first Legends Car was unveiled at the Lowe's
Motor Speedway near Charlotte, North Carolina. The concept of creating a fun and
affordable "spec" class of racing for anyone to participate in was born.
President and General Manager of LMS, H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler and Elliott
Forbes-Robinson, famed road racing champion, designed these 5/8-scale fiberglass
full-fendered versions of the famed NASCAR modifieds driven by legendary drivers
such as Fireball Roberts, Buck Baker, Curtis Turner, Speedy Thompson and Banjo
Matthews.
The popularity of the Legends Cars was almost instantaneous. With four
different racing divisions geared to accommodate almost any experience level
they were, and remain, a hit throughout North America as well as in Europe.
It was only a short time after their introduction, in 1994, that the first
Legends Cars appeared in eastern Canada, reviving the competitive spirit in many
veteran racers as well as providing a proving ground for young up-and-coming
racers in the region.
The Maritime League of Legends Association was formed in 2005 by a group of
racer's wanting to grow the Legends Cars division in the Maritime Provinces of
Canada.
The Legends Cars are produced by 600 Racing, Inc. in Harrisburg, North
Carolina. Currently they are the largest mass producer of racecars in the world.
Presently, there are more than 3,500 Legends Cars in existence.
